How to get to Charleroi Airport from Brussels

Charleroi Airport is some sixty kilometres from Brussels, and most flights leaving from it depart early. Here are the options that genuinely exist, with their constraints.

Zone de dépose d'un aéroport de nuit avec véhicules et voyageurs

1. The shuttle bus from Brussels-Midi

This is the cheapest and most used option. A coach service links Brussels-Midi station to the airport, with regular departures during the day. The journey itself is direct.

Its limits sit either side: you must first reach Brussels-Midi under your own steam, keep to a fixed departure, and allow a margin in case of delay. In the small hours the frequency drops, and the Brussels network that takes you to Midi is not yet running.

2. Train to Charleroi, then the local bus

You can take a train to Charleroi-Central, then a local bus line to the airport. The combination works, but it adds a connection and assumes the two timetables line up.

It is rarely the best choice for a flight: a missed connection is hard to recover, and the service does not cover night-time slots.

3. Your own car

The drive takes about 50 minutes to 1 h 10 from Brussels, via the R0 then the A54. Convenient on the way out — but the car then sits in the car park for the whole of your trip, and someone has to drive at what is often a night-time hour.

That makes sense for a short trip, much less for a one- or two-week stay.

4. A door-to-door private transfer

A private transfer collects you at your address, at the hour your flight requires, and drops you in front of the terminal. No connection, no fixed timetable, no vehicle left behind.

The price is set per vehicle rather than per person: that is what makes it worthwhile as soon as two or three of you travel, and it is often the only workable option for a dawn departure.

Which to choose

  • Travelling alone, during the day, with light luggage — the coach from Midi offers the best price-to-simplicity ratio.
  • Your flight leaves before 7 a.m. — public transport does not properly cover that window; a private transfer is generally the only continuous option.
  • Travelling as a group or a family — the price gap closes quickly and the journey becomes door to door.
  • Coming back late in the evening — being met at the flight’s actual arrival saves you hunting for a connection.
